Wellbeing is something we take very seriously at Jacksons Workwear Rental. We’re a family, with many long-standing members of staff, and not only do we want our staff to do their best for our customers, but we want the best for them and their families too. That’s why, at the end of last year, we implemented a new wellbeing scheme. The scheme is designed to invest in our employee’s mental, physical and social health. We are offering a WELLBEING DAY for all of our team, which they can spend as they wish. The goal of this is to give everyone time to focus on themselves and their wellbeing. In turn, creating an atmosphere of positivity both at home and work.
When employees push themselves too hard at work, it can end up being detrimental to themselves, and the company they work for.
Some benefits of offering a wellbeing day to our employees include:
- Keeping everyone healthy and happy
- Improving engagement and motivation
- Improving confidence, innovation and productivity
- Improving team morale and our customer service
Here is Rebecca Wilson, our Strategic Business Development Manager, with some words about how important wellbeing is here at Jacksons.
Wellbeing can mean different things to different people. For some it might be a day spent shopping or a trip to the spa, and for others it might mean climbing a mountain! All we’ve asked is that our staff share with us how they’ve chosen to spend their day, as we can’t wait to hear how this has positively impacted each person.
The first two to take their wellbeing day were our Regional Sales Managers, Dan and Malc, who decided to spend their wellbeing day together climbing Kinder Scout in the Derbyshire Peak District. The walk was approximately 9 miles long, and took them around 4 ½ hours to complete. It stands at 2087ft above sea level and has some amazing views over the country, so it was definitely worth the effort!
When asking why they chose to climb Kinder Scout, they said they wanted to challenge themselves to reach the highest point in the peak district, and have a day in the countryside away from the hustle and bustle of motorways and city centres which they encounter on a regular basis due to the nature of their roles. They spent the day talking about everything but work…. mainly their football teams. They were blessed with kind weather and said it was a perfect day for the walk, with a couple of stops for tea and sandwiches along the way!
Dan said “I really enjoyed the opportunity to set myself a challenge and to complete it. The views at the top were amazing, it was very peaceful and quiet,” and Malc offered advice for those who are going to take the day over the next year, “Take your Wellness Day and use it wisely. You won’t regret it.”
Obviously we want to make wellbeing a priority in our workplace every day, not just on one day of the year, which is why we also have 3 dedicated Mental Health First Aiders in our team. Ellie, Liz and Tom are always around in the workplace to help day to day, and the Directors have an open door policy (they’ve even got a comfy new pink sofa!).
Everybody at Jacksons has access to Able Futures who are in partnership with the Department for Work & Pensions and they offer advice, tips and guidance support for mental health at work. This support plan is a confidential service which can last up to 9 months – and there’s no referral scheme or waiting list.
From a practical standpoint, we have educated our staff about the Fashion and Textile Children’s Trust, who offer grants towards essential items for children of fashion and textile workers. In the last few years, over 12 children from the Jacksons family have benefited. This assistance has definitely contributed to the wellbeing of the staff members involved.
Bereavement support is available free of charge through our charity partner St Barnabas Hospice. They offer support emotionally, psychologically and practically. Moreover, we have a new partner in the pipeline who will be introduced to the staff soon.
We’re looking forward to hearing how everyone spends their day, and to seeing the positive differences it will make for everyone in the team; here’s to a Happy 2023 for everyone!
