We have had a busy and exciting few weeks here at Jacksons Workwear Rental, and we are pleased to share some big news. After months of planning, logistics, and teamwork alongside the team at Amelio Solar, the installation of our 137.78 kWp solar panel system is now complete. This 251-panel solar system is projected to generate over 100,000 kWh of renewable electricity per year and will significantly reduce our reliance on grid-supplied energy, lower our carbon footprint, and deliver long-term cost savings.

How solar energy works

Here is a quick breakdown of the solar power process:

  1. Sunlight hits the panels, and the PV cells absorb the energy.
  2. The cells convert the energy into direct current electricity.
  3. A solar inverter then transforms this into alternating current, which is used by most appliances.
  4. The electricity powers our operations, and when there is extra (especially over the weekends), we send it back to the grid.

What does this mean for the environment?

Our solar system will reduce 20.22 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. That is the equivalent of:

  • Preventing the burning of nearly 8,600 litres of petrol.
  • The carbon footprint of two average UK households over a year.
  • What would take around 960 trees an entire year to absorb.

Why now?

In 2024, nearly 7% of global electricity came from solar, marking a 33% increase on the previous year. Solar is one of the fastest-growing power generation technologies, and as more and more businesses are turning to renewable energy, we knew it was time to do the same. By powering our operations with solar energy, we are actively reducing our environmental impact, and every garment we clean is now part of a more sustainable supply chain.

Our production Manager, Tom, explains it best:

“With energy prices continuing to climb, we knew it was time to act. As a business that relies heavily on electricity to run our machinery, switching to solar just made sense. It’s a move that not only helps us reduce our reliance on the grid but also delivers immediate savings, something every business can appreciate. The timing couldn’t have been better. Installing our system in spring means we’re heading into the sunniest months of the year, giving us the best possible start. We’re excited to see the impact this investment will have, not just on our bottom line, but on our environmental footprint as well.”

Why Jacksons is the perfect fit for solar

Our site is ideal for solar energy, thanks to its location and roof space, which receive sunlight throughout the day. The more intense the sunlight, the more electricity can be produced. Even on those classic British cloudy days, our system can continue to generate electricity, making it a reliable energy source all year round.

Our investment in solar energy reflects our ongoing commitment to building a more sustainable future. We are dedicated to providing cost-effective, reliable services while minimising our environmental impact. By embracing smarter, more sustainable ways of operating, we not only support one of our core values but also help to protect the planet. This decision ensures we can continue to deliver the high-quality service our customers rely on for years to come.
