The 19th of November 2023 marks a significant milestone in the history of Jacksons Workwear Rental as we celebrate our 100th birthday. While our roots trace back an impressive 230 years within the same family, originally Jacksons Dyers and Dry Cleaners, Jacksons became a formally incorporated business 100 years ago. We are proud to share that we recently received a letter from the King congratulating us on reaching this significant milestone. This royal acknowledgement is not only an honour for the founders, leadership, and employees but also a recognition of the longstanding contribution Jacksons has made in the community and the industry. The Birth of Jacksons Lincoln Laundry Co
In the early 20th century, Jacksons took a bold step forward by incorporating as a business entity. This move saw the acquisition of The Lincoln Laundry Co., a moment that shaped the course of our company’s history. The Lincoln Laundry Co. was the first commercial laundry to be established in the city and had the monopoly of business in Lincoln for many years. However, in 1923 they held two very important meetings. In these meetings, it was resolved that the company would be wound up voluntarily. This was when Roy Somers Mackinder (son of David Clarke, who played a crucial role in running the original Jacksons and Co.), and A.E Wiles (manager of The Lincoln Brick Co.) acquired The Lincoln Laundry Co. land, buildings and plant and formed Jacksons Lincoln Laundry.
This move to The Lincoln Laundry Co. site on Weir Street laid the foundation for decades of success. It was here that Jacksons Lincoln Laundry took its first steps towards becoming a household name in the industry. Once acquired, there was an immediate need to improve the works equipment. In 1928, the company underwent a significant upgrade, showcasing a dedication to staying at the forefront of technological advancements. This commitment to innovation was pivotal in ensuring that Jacksons not only survived but thrived in a business landscape. The visionaries behind this venture, Roy Somers Mackinder and A.E. Wiles demonstrated a commitment to excellence that would set the tone for the years to come.

By the 1930s, Jacksons was not only a thriving business but a tight-knit community. This success was shared with its employees, who were rewarded for their hard work and dedication. This appreciation was shown with a day trip to Skegness, a gesture that showcased the family-like atmosphere within the company.
